I almost really messed up

Almost three weeks since my last post because I’ve been otherwise occupied spending time with my mom helping her get back on her feet somewhat at the expense of myself. Trying to stay with my AIP: Modified diet has been difficult, to say the least. As such I have experienced for the first time in almost two years the inflammatory response of Complex Regional Syndrome simply because I had the mindset of I’ll be fine and figured that as I didn’t deny myself of an item from the Standard American Diet, as I call it, but limited myself I would be able to tolerate the added exposure. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

As you can see from the photos here after 2.5 weeks of imbibing the neurogenic edema began to creep in. However, after approximately 36 hours of abstaining from all carbs, no sugar not even raw or honey, the redness and the neurogenic edema begin to subside. As well as the heightened pain level, aldonia and the neuropathic pain associated with the burning tingling and such as well subsided. I’m nowhere near where I was when I got here but I’m also nowhere near where I was on the 26th when my pain shot up to around a seven for the first time in a long time. I’m back down to about a five on a scale of 1 to 10 and I’m looking forward to getting home starting my inclusion dietary protocol all over again and improving my pain substantially.

I’m sure right about here is where you’re thinking, “You’re going to lessen your pain more? You’re already telling us that you run around a 1.5 when you wake up in the morning and you don’t escalate anything over a 2 to a 3 with regular activity around the home and out and about in your community. How, pray tell, are you going to lower your pain even more? The answer to that would be starting this whole dietary inclusion thing I was making up as I went along. Where I was unaware of the potential inflammatory effects of nightshades because of the lectins. See, I love spaghetti, lasagna, Pizza, BBLTs which stand for beef bacon lettuce and tomato, tomatoes on my salad, eat a tomato like a plum, salsa and chips, salsa on my omelette and I’m sure I could come up with a few more things with tomatoes… oh that’s right my vegetable beef soup, ugh…

These are items that though I have limited them to some degree because of the gastric distress that they cause me along with heartburn …which …oh, yes, is an inflammatory response… I have to admit to now… I need to seriously assess them as I attempt to either include or exclude. Exclude is a harsh word when we exclude things we tend to Crave the more I don’t want to Crave them so I’m not going to fully exclude them. However, I will be taking notes and figuring out just exactly what all is in the nightshade family besides tomatoes peppers and potatoes and I will be limiting these items even more then I have in the past.
